Guiding Statements
Below are the major self-defining statements about Tamarack that have been developed and operative during its twelve year history.
Our Philosophy
At Tamarack Waldorf School, we strive to educate the whole child. Through the artistic Waldorf curriculum, we develop the child's capacities for creative thinking and clear perception, emotional depth and sensitivity, and purposeful work.
Following the indications set forth by Dr. Rudolf Steiner (the founder of Waldorf education), we provide children with experiences and educational content appropriate to their particular stage of development and mirroring the evolution of the consciousness of humanity.
This Waldorf approach fosters confidence and imaginative thinking vital to success in any adult pursuit. Children are nurtured and encouraged to become their best selves in relationship to their peers and to the whole human community.
Just as we see each human being as having a three-fold nature, (thinking, feeling and willing), we also see our own school organization and the society in which we live as having three aspects. In our organization, we strive for health and vitality through the process of balancing and harmonizing these three aspects or spheres of life.
Mission/Purpose Statement
Tamarack Waldorf School is committed to providing a living Waldorf curriculum for children based on the pedagogical work of Rudolf Steiner. It is our intention to work warmly with both the regional and worldwide Waldorf movements. Our school's mission is focused towards a strong commitment to community. By remaining open, flexible and responsive to community needs and initiative, we hope to recognize and honor each person as a striving spiritual being.
It is our desire to serve as wide and diverse a community as possible. We welcome and encourage people of all races and sexual orientations, from every religion, creed and nation of origin, to join us. We believe that Waldorf education should be made available to all those who seek it, despite rising costs for private education. This ideal can be more fully realized through our participation in the School Choice and PAVE programs in connection with our own tuition reduction policy.
As we strive towards this vision, it is essential to support the growth, health and well-being of each community member. We view this as inseparable from the healthy growth of the school. The working together of teachers, parents and community in this way will provide a vessel, through which the help of the spiritual world can manifest.
