Lucie Worman's 2025 Graduation Speech
Welcome everyone. This evening is filled with a mixture of emotions. Many of us are scared for the future, excited for the new experiences, and sad about having to leave this school. Growing up with this class throughout the years has made so many amazing memories; I'm not sure where to start.
A good deal of us met each other in the first grade after walking the rainbow bridge, when we were still coloring with block crayons and painting with water colors. I still find it crazy how 8 years disappear in the blink of an eye, and I can't believe today is the day that felt like it would never come, the day of our graduation. I would like to share a quote from the novel The Giver, which was the first book we read this year with Mr Derek.
“I think I mentioned it to you once, The Giver reminded him, that when she was gone, the memories came back to the people. If you were to be lost in the river, Jonas, your memories would not be lost with you. Memories are forever.”
Starting next year, without these familiar faces, it going to be really different. But I will always remember the memories I have with my class from inventing new games to play at recess to taking in applied arts about past memories. One of my favorite memories is our 5th-grade pentathlon after winning 15 laurels together as a class; that one picture after receiving them will forever be one of my most cherished photographs. It captures not just a moment, but the bond and the joy of achieving something special together.
One of the reasons why we have this bond is our teachers, they gave us the education and support to help us grow not just as a class but as people. Even though she is not technically our teacher, I would like to give Ms. Bair a big thank you. Most of us met her on the first day of first grade, for others we met her after joining a new school and not knowing anyone, and for some we haven't met her at all, but still. She connected with us in a way no other teacher could, and taught us how to care for each other no matter what and no matter when.
Going to Tamarack has shown me so much, but most of all, how much people can impact your life just by being in it, from the friends I've made and and the books we’ve read in Language arts, going to this school but especially being with this class was the best decision my parents ever made.
I would like to conclude my speech just as we started every day in our elementary and middle school mornings, with a blessing that I felt fit today:
“The lands around my dwelling are more beautiful from the day. When it is given to me to see faces I have never seen before, all is more beautiful. All is more beautiful. And life is thankfulness. These guests of mine make my life grand.”
We all are going to change during high school, but change is normal. Even if we're not changing on the outside, we are going to be changing on the inside, but as long as you know the shape of your soul, everything will be alright. I hope everybody's high school experience is as amazing as my experience growing up with you all.
